Elivis’s house has received this special status because it has “meaning to all Americans”, according to the US Interior Department.

It was purchased by Presley in 1957 for $103,000 (£59,000) with earnings from his first hit single, Heartbreak Hotel.

Graceland attracts more than 600,000 visitors each year, and becomes one of approximately 2,500 such “landmarks”, in the US.

This is the highest level of recognition that can be awarded to a historic property in the US.

rispost Phil Collins Heading for Divorce Number 3

British singer and songwriter Phil Collins and his wife of six years, Orianne, have decided to separate, the couple said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

This was the third marriage for the rock star, who has three other children from his previous marriages.

Collins, 55, joined Genesis as a drummer in 1970 and became its lead singer after Peter Gabriel departed in 1975 to launch a solo career.

In 1996, Collins announced his departure from Genesis after 26 years with the band.

I guess we just wish him luck with wife number 4.

rispost Chart ban scandal over multiple downloads

An upcoming band saw their single disqualified from the charts after fans and friends were discovered buying multiple copies.

The Official Charts Company spotted “unusual sales patterns” of The Modern’s song Industry, which had reached number 13.

On investigation it found the sales had come from a small number of people buying hundreds of copies.

Well I guess that is one way to make it BIG!

rispost Pearl Jam is Back!

After nearly a four-year break from recording, Pearl Jam has announced plans to release its eighth official studio album on May 2, followed by a major world tour.

Eddie Vedder tells Billboard, this new album was written by the grunge rock band out of anger and frustration at the reelection of President George W. Bush and the ongoing war in Iraq.

To further hype the release, Pearl Jam is making an MP3 of the lead single, “World Wide Suicide,” available for free download for two days via their newly redesigned official site, www.pearljam.com starting Wednesday, the same day the song goes out to radio stations across the country.

rispost US Government Launches Inquiry into Online Price Fixing

The U.S. Justice Department said Thursday it has launched an inquiry into possible price fixing in the growing online music industry.This enquiry is thought to mirror the one launched last December by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.  At that time he simply subpoenaed several record companies fishing for information on wholesale prices that music labels charge for downloadable digital music files.

The Justice Department gave no information on which companies it has targeted. “The antitrust division is looking at the possibility of anticompetitive practices in the music download industry,” spokesman Gina Talamona said.

It must be because everyone was offering .99 cent downloads?

Earth, Wind & Fire still got it, their newest album, Illumination, features eight guest appearances from rap and “soul” artists and is far from an embarrassment.  The songs retain elements of the band’s signature sound: the serpentine horns, the jazz-influenced harmonies, the sun-kissed songs of romantic love, the mystical lyrics of spiritual love.

Pearl Jam announced Wednesday that it will release its eighth studio album, and first since 2002, in early May of this year.  Tour dates in support of “Pearl Jam” will be announced later this month, the band said in a news release.

George Michael, the 42-year-old British singer was taken into custody early on Sunday at Hyde Park Corner in central London after a member of the public called police to investigate a man slumped over the wheel of his car.

Police said he had been held on suspicion of possessing class C drugs, a group in British law which includes cannabis, tranquilizers and some painkillers.

“It’s my own stupid fault, as usual,” Michael said in a statement on Monday. “I was in possession of drugs, which is an offense, and I have no complaints about the police, who were professional throughout.
